Cloth Diaper Care

Properly cared for, you can get years of use from today`s cloth diapering products. Our Chinese prefolds, fleece covers, and hemp fitted diapers are designed to last through several babies, and still maintain their functionality and beauty. The embroidery on your diaper/cover does not need any special care other than to ensure it is not washed with items that may catch on the threads.

Caring for your diapers:
Prior to first use, it is recommended that you allow Chinese Prefolds to agitate for about 5 normal cycles in the hottest temperature water, add 1/4 cup detergent and continue through the rinse cycle. Dry at normal temperatures.
Prefolds will "quilt" up and become softer and more absorbent with repeated washings.

The hemp fabric used in our fitted diapers has been pre-washed but may still contain the natural oils from the plant. Wash them as described above to remove these oils prior to first use if desired. They may be washed and dried with the rest of your diaper laundry.

WCC fleece covers require no special preparation before the first use. They come to you ready to be worn. They can also be washed with the rest of your diaper laundry, but we recommend air drying to help prevent pilling of the fabric. A brush can be gently used on the fleece if pilling is already a problem.

You may store wet and soiled diapers in a dry pail. There is no need to rinse soiled diapers prior to washing. The solid waste of older babies can be removed by gently shaking the diaper over a toilet. Simply toss the diapers into the wash, use the hottest water setting you have available, 1/4 cup of detergent (less for front loaders), and wash. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the first rinse cycle and do a second rinse if your machine has that feature (you can always reset the washer to do another rinse when it finishes). Dry your diapers on a line outside for bright white diapers or for stain removal, and a fantastic smell, or use the cotton setting of your dryer.

Detergents to use:
We recommend Tide, Sunlight, Cheer, Era, and Sensi Clean/Sportwash.
Natural soaps should never be used on cloth diapers because they are often made with oils and will leave a residue on fabric causing it to repel urine. Natural soap detergents include All Free, Dr. Bronners Soap, 7th Generation, Bio-Kleen, and baby detergents such as Ivory Snow or Dreft.

Fabric softeners cause waxy buildup and also should not be used. Using a cup of vinegar in your washers' rinse cycle will prevent most static and and is a natural fabric softener, it will also keep residue away.

If you have ANY questions regarding the use or care of your diapers, please don`t hesitate to email us and we will do our best to answer them. No question is too trivial...we want you to get a long life from all your diapering products!
